Meetings with secretaries general of OPEC, GECF and Egyptian Minister held in Vienna
The Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov met with Secretary General of the Organization of Oil Exporting Countries (OPEC) Mr. Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Mr. Mohamed Hamel and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Egypt Karim Bedawi within the framework of the 9th OPEC International Seminar in Vienna.
At the meeting with OPEC Secretary General Mr. Haitham Al-Qais, the current state of regulation of the oil market, development trends in the oil industry and cooperation in the OPEC+ format were discussed. During the conversation, the contribution of cooperation between OPEC and non-OPEC countries in maintaining stability in the oil market was noted. The role of Azerbaijan in this process was highly appreciated.
At the meeting with GECF Secretary General Mr. Mohamed Hamel, the sides exchanged views on Azerbaijan's cooperation with the Organization and the development of the global gas sector. During the conversation, the importance of panels and pavilions of GECF within the framework of COP29, which aim to highlight the environmental advantages of natural gas, promote it as an accessible, affordable and sustainable energy source, demonstrate technological achievements in the field of decarbonization and provide conditions for dialogue and exchange of experience in this direction, was reminded and a gratitude was expressed to Azerbaijan for its support to such initiatives. The Minister of Energy was invited to the Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) to be held in Qatar on the 23rd of October.
The main topic of discussion at the meeting with Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Bedawi was strengthening the energy ties between the two countries. It was noted that the mutual visits of the heads of state gave impetus to the development of bilateral relations in all areas, including energy cooperation. In this context, it was emphasized that a protocol on cooperation in the fields of oil and oil products, LNG trade, extraction and exploration projects, refining, decarbonization and human capital development, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the fields of electricity and renewable energy had been signed. During the conversation, interest in cooperation in the fields of production, petrochemistry and processing was expressed.
