Deputy Energy Minister attended the World Utilities Congress in Abu Dhabi
Deputy Energy Minister Samir Valiyev represented our country at the World Utilities Congress held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Deputy Minister participated in the panel discussion on "Shaping the future of utilities: balancing energy access and growth in emerging economies".
Noting that Azerbaijan plays an important role in ensuring the energy security of the countries of the region and Europe, the Deputy Minister said that our country is moving towards a more sustainable energy future with specific goals for energy transition, while fully meeting domestic energy needs. Although the initial goal was to increase the share of renewable energy sources in total installed capacity by 2030 to 30%, taking into account the current pace of development, it was noted that in 2027 it is planned to increase this figure to 33.7%, in 2030 to 37.9%, and in 2035 to 42.5%.
It was noted that solar and wind energy projects to be implemented in the coming years are aimed at generating 6.7 billion kWh of electricity, saving 1.5 bcm of natural gas per year and reducing 3.2 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions. It was emphasized that the 3 initiatives, which include the creation of green energy corridors and zones, the strengthening of energy storage systems and power grids, as well as green hydrogen, proposed by Azerbaijan as the country presiding over COP29, are aimed at accelerating the global energy transition and strengthening international cooperation.
The ministerial panel exchanged views on issues such as energy security, access to clean and reliable energy, expansion of access to financial resources, promotion of renewable energy technologies and increasing the sustainability of energy systems.
