Measurement of wind energy potential

Before the construction of wind power plants, the potential of the wind in that area is measured. Wind speed, direction and intensity of turbulence are important for assessing energy potential. For this, wind measurement observation stations (OMS) with a meteorological mast 85-100 meters high are used, equipped with anemometers and additional sensors.

Such stations have also been established in our country. Among them, OMS established near Yeni Yashma WPP, Sangachal Terminal and Khaltan village of Guba region, as well as 5 OMS established by ACWA Power in Khizi and Absheron regions are currently in operation.
