Today marks the 74th anniversary of a historic milestone in the oil industry - commissioning of the world's first offshore oil platform in Azerbaijan's Oil Rocks.

Well №1 942 meters in depth was commissioned to produce 100 tons of oil a day in Oil Rocks (Neft Dashlari) on November 7, 1949 thus laying foundation for the offshore oil exploration and production. Oil Rocks (Neft Dashlari) is a unique urban platform built on metal poles attached to the bottom of the sea, 42 kilometers southeast of the Absheron Peninsula. The launch of this platform is associated with the names of oil geologist Aga Gurban Aliyev, followed by Yusif Safarov and Mikhail Kaverochkin.
