The first meeting of the Experts Group was held at the Ministry of Energy to develop the project “Long-term development strategy of the energy sector of the Republic of Azerbaijan”. The first report of the EU "Support to the Government of Azerbaijan for the Development of the Energy Sector" was presented at the meeting.

 Samir Valiyev, the chairman of the  Experts Group and Deputy Minister of Energy noted that  paragraph 1.1 in the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 29, 2019 “On accelerating reforms in the energy sector” includes the drafting of the long-term development strategy of the energy sector. In this regard an international consulting company was involved with the financial support of the EU. The goal is to draft a “Long-Term Energy Strategy” for development, taking into account trends in the development of international energy markets by 2050.

At the meeting, the representative of the consulting company Theodor Goumas presented the report of the project of support. The sides exchanged views on the structure and components of the development of the “Long-term Energy Strategy” for 2020-2050, and targets on reducing carbon emissions in the energy sector, economic activity of energy markets, and supply security were brought to the attention. Activities and responsibilities were reviewed on energy efficiency in energy demand and supply, increase in the use of renewable energy sources and other strategic directions, and  comments and suggestions of Experts Group.

The representatives of Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of , Transport, Communications and High Technologies, Ministry of Agriculture, State Statistical Committee, SOCAR, "Azerenergy" OJSC, "Azerishig" OJSC, "Azeristiliktechizat” and other organizatiions attended at the meeting.
