Electricity production in the country increased last year

According to operational data on electricity over 2021, electricity production in Azerbaijan amounted to 2591.2 million kWh, exports - 289.6 million kWh, and imports - 10.5 million kWh in December. In comparison with the same period in 2020, electricity production in December increased by 201.4 million kWh, exports by 127.9 million kWh while imports decreased by 0.2 million kWh.

In January-December 2021, electricity production in the republic (including economic entities, the main activity of which is not the electricity generation) increased by 2044.8 million kWh in comparison with 2020 and amounted to 27856.0 million kWh. During the reporting period, electricity generation at TPPs increased by 1840.5 mln kWh reaching to 26238.8 mln kWh, at HPPs increased by 207.9 mln kWh reaching to 1277.3 mln kWh, and at other sources (WPP, SPP and Solid household waste plant) decreased by 3.6 mln kWh reaching to 339.9 mln kWh in comparison with corresponding 12 months last year. 91.5 mln kWh of electricity was generated at WPPs, 55.2 mln kWh at SPPs, and 193.2 mln kWh at the Solid Household Waste Incineration Plant.

During the year, electricity generation made up 25038.0 million kWh on "Azerenergy" OJSC (23905.0 million kWh at TPPs, 1133.0 mln kWh at HPPs), 451.0 mln kWh on State Energy Agency of Nakhchivan AR (269.5 mln kWh at TPPs, 130.3 mln kWh at HPPs, 51.2 mln kWh at SPP), 66.1 mln kWh at WPPs on Azerishig OJSC, and 2300.9 million kWh on independent PPs.

During this period, electricity exports increased by 526.4 mln kWh compared to the same period in 2020, amounting to 1677.1 mln kWh. Electricity imports increased by 15.0 mln kWh compared to the same period last year, amounting to 151.5 mln kWh.
