Power engineers celebrate their professional holiday

On the occasion of “Energy Day”, the chief officials and employees of the Ministry of Energy, “Azerenergy” OJSC, “Azerishiq” OJSC visited the grave of the national leader Heydar Aliyev and laid a wreath at the monument at the Alley of Honors. Then, they laid flowers at the graves of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva, outstanding statesman Aziz Aliyev.

The event proceeded with a visit to the Alley of Martyrs. Power engineers, who visited the Alley of Martyrs, paid tribute to heroes of the motherland, who gave their lives for the country`s independence and territorial integrity and laid flowers at the graves.  

For 15 years, Azerbaijani power engineers have been celebrating October 20 as their professional holiday. This history is based on a remarkable event that is of vital importance in the life of the country. 38 years ago, on October 20, 1981, on the initiative and under the leadership of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, a new stage in the development of Azerbaijani energy was laid, with the commissioning of the first power unit of the "Azerbaijan" TPP. By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, No. 446 dated October 13, 2004, that date was established in our country as the "Day of Energy".
