A memorial ceremony was held at the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy. The ceremony started with a minute of silence for the memory of the heroes, who sacrificed their lives for the independence of Azerbaijan and the territorial integrity of our country. Later Deputy Energy Minister Samir Valiyev spoke about the crimes committed by the armed forces of the Soviet empire against civilians who protested for the freedom of Azerbaijan and sovereignty of the country 29 years ago. He described January 20 tragedy as one of the heroic pages of our national history.

Speakers of the ceremony stressed that the first political assessment of January 20 tragedy was given by national leader Heydar Aliyev. It was also mentioned that the government of Azerbaijan approached with high respect to the memory of our martyrs. Solution of the problems of martyrs' families and war veterans and strengthened social security provided at government level are one of the priorities of the policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev.

The memorial ceremony ended with a documentary film about January 20 tragedy.
