In May 2020, electricity production in Azerbaijan amounted to 1899.6 million kWh, exports - 21.7 million kWh, and imports - 17.5 million kWh. In comparison with the same period in 2019, electricity production in May decreased by 17.5 million kWh, while exports increased by 2.7 million kWh, import by 8.6 million kWh.

In January-May of the current year, electricity production in the country increased by 51.1 million kWh in comparison with the same period last year and amounted to 10796.5 million kWh.

During the reporting period, electricity generation at TPPs increased by 200.8 mln kWh reaching to 10095.6 mln kWh, at HPPs decreased by 150.5 mln kWh reaching to 549.0 mln kWh, and at other sources (WPP, SPP and Solid household waste plant) increased by 0.7 mln kWh reaching to 151.9 mln kWh in comparison with last year.  45.1 mln kWh of electricity was generated at WPPs, 18.1 mln kWh at SPPs, and 88.7 mln kWh at the solid household waste incineration plant.

In the five months of 2020 electricity generation made up 9650.6 mln kWh on "Azerenergy" OJSC (9186.2 mln kWh at TPPs, 464.4 mln kWh at HPPs), 155.8 mln kWh on State Energy Agency of Nakhchivan AR (65.2 mln kWh at TPPs, 75.1 mln kWh at HPPs, 15.5 mln kWh at SPP), and  990.1 mln kWh on Independent PPs).

During this period, electricity exports decreased by 522.3 mln kWh compared to the same period in 2019, amounting to 113.7 mln kWh. Electricity imports increased by 1.1 mln kWh compared to the same period last year, amounting to 62.2 mln kWh.
