The Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov spoke in Abu Dhabi at the 8 th meeting of Asian Energy Ministers

The Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov represented Azerbaijan at the 8 ^th meeting of Asian Energy Ministers in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi.  The Minister spoke on the "Role of new technologies for competitive and productive energy." In his speech, the Minister, in reference to the predictions on the energy demand to be concentrated in Asia in the next 20 years, noted the importance of the action in terms of addressing the issues such as the reduction of carbon emissions while meeting the rising energy demand. Highlighting that technologies in the global energy system have led to great changes, the minister shared his experience of introducing technological innovations in the energy sector of Azerbaijan since the first oil production in an industrial way.

He drew attention to the “Southern Gas Corridor” which is considered as the biggest infrastructures and global energy safety projects in the world and and which is about to finish and to the development of its main supply source - the “Shah Deniz” field as a sample of the advanced engineering and technological success.

The Minister Parviz Shahbazov spoke about the reforms on sustainable development of Azerbaijan as an energy country under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies, the expansion of the use of renewable energy sources and the liberalization of the energy sector: "Today, the energy policy followed by Azerbaijan is directed to the efficient use of our natural resources and the leverage of the alternative renewable energy sources.
Traditional energy - natural gas made up 92 % of the country's electricity. On the one hand, measures are being taken to achieve high results at natural gas - fired power plants using the latest technologies, increase the efficiency of station, and improve energy efficiency. On the other hand, we are striving to increase the share of renewable energy in electricity production, taken into account that carbon emissions are mainly generated by the electricity sector. ”

The Minister also touched upon the importance of the international cooperation for creating a future full with the productive and sustainable energy and stated that Azerbaijan is ready for such a cooperation in its renewable energy field.
