Minister of Energy meets with Vice-President of Italian Chamber of Deputies

Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, co-chair of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Italy Parviz Shahbazov met with the delegation  led by Vice-President of the İtalian Chamber of Deputies Ettore Rosato.

Welcoming the guests, the minister highly appreciated the visit of a delegation of deputies from various Italian parties to Azerbaijan in such a difficult period in connection with the global pandemic, their visit to the liberated territories and their close acquaintance with the destruction committed by Armenia. He stressed that this visit embodied Italy's support for Azerbaijan at such a time of great importance for our country and thanked for this support.

It was noted that the official visit of the President of the Republic of Italy Mr. Sergio Mattarella to Azerbaijan on July 18, 2018, the official visit of the first Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva to the Republic of Italy on September 25, 2018, as well as the state visit of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev to Italy, the signing of the “Joint Declaration on Strengthening Multidimensional Strategic Partnership” and the numerous documents during this visit paved the way for further developing cooperation between the two countries.

It was also noted that cooperation in the energy sector plays an important role in the development of relations between the two countries. The importance of the Southern Gas Corridor and its important segment, the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline, was emphasized in this cooperation, and it was noted that Azerbaijani gas was planned to be transported to Europe at the end of the current year. It was also noted that high-level cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy covers other economic areas, and so far, Italian companies have implemented contracts worth 10 billion USD in the oil and non-oil sectors.

The head of the Italian delegation expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that this visit to Azerbaijan as an end to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is an indicator of high-level of friendship towards Azerbaijan. Speaking about the visit to our liberated territories, Ettore Rosato expressed his deep condolences on behalf of the delegation to the families of martyrs, their relatives and the people of Azerbaijan.

The fact that Italy relies on  Azerbaijan for its energy security is mentioned as an indicator of high-level of friendship between the two countries. At the same time, it was stressed that Italy was interested in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan not only in the oil and gas sector, but also in many areas of the economy.

During the meeting, preparation for the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Italy, which was established for the purpose of stable and long-term development of economic and trade relations between the two countries, were also touched upon. The activities of the Azerbaijani ambassador to Italy and Italian ambassador to Azerbaijan were emphasized in the comprehensive development of relations between the two countries.
