The International Renewable Energy Agency is interested in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan
A video conference was held between Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Francesco La Camera and Head of Administration of the Ministry of Energy Zaur Mammadov.
Zaur Mammadov spoke about the prospects for the development of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan, the activities implemented in this area and ongoing projects. He said that the draft law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the use of renewable energy sources in the production of electricity" was prepared, agreed with the relevant agencies and submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers. Zaur Mammadov also noted that Azerbaijan is preparing to hold auctions on renewable energy projects.
Speaking about the long-term effective cooperation between the international organization he represents and Azerbaijan, Director General of IRENA Francesco La Camera gave an information about IRENA's partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to accelerate the transition to low-carbon energy and achieve sustainable development and brought the prospects for expanding relations with Azerbaijan within this cooperation to the attention.
During the video conference, it was agreed to implement joint projects to develop a bioenergy map in Azerbaijan, conduct wind energy measurements for auctions and collect data on wind indicators in accordance with internationally accepted standards. Exchanging views on joint projects and discussing upcoming issues, the sides expressed their high appreciation for cooperation between the two institutions and confidence that cooperation will continue successfully.
