The first meeting was held by the Commission established pursuant to Order dated 05 December 2019 by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “Actions for implementing pilot projects on the use of renewable energy sources”.

The chairman of the Commission, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov noted that the main goal was to perform the instructions by the head of state and duties arising out of the Order. The Minister provided information on the activities implemented over the last year by the Ministry of Energy in the field of the use of renewable energy sources. He stated that significant steps were taken, and the international practice was learnt and collaborative documents were signed with 9 international companies aimed at involving the private sector for the development of this field. The current status of the renewable energy sector in the country was assessed and a law was drafted with the consideration of the investors’ interests and is in the phase of agreement. The suggestions by the international companies were evaluated.

  The agenda and activities to be implemented were discussed at the meeting. 5 working groups were established for the actions. Also, it was suggested to establish a working group on the legal and institutional issues for drafting contracts in compliance with the local legislative terms and conditions with the consideration of the international practice with the investors.

The working groups were recommended to submit the relevant suggestions to take the actions within the terms specified in the Order.
