Power Engineers` Day was celebrated in Azerbaijan

Senior officials and staff of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, “Azerenergy” OJSC and “Azerishig” OJSC went to the Alley of Honor on 20 October, on the occasion of Power Engineers` Day, visited the grave of national leader Heydar Aliyev and laid a wreath at his monument. Then flowers were laid on the graves of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva and statesman Aziz Aliyev.

The event continued with a visit to the Alley of Martyrs. The energy workers honored the memory of the heroic sons of the Motherland who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and laid flowers on their graves.

On 20 October 1981, on the initiative and under the leadership of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, a new stage in the development of the energy system of Azerbaijan was laid, with the commissioning of the first power unit of the "Azerbaijan" TPP.  By the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, No. 446 dated 13 October 2004, that date was established in our country as the Power Engineers` Day.
