Energy Minister: "More than 70 percent of Azerbaijan's green energy capacity will be exported”
Within the WindEnergy Hamburg Conference, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov made a speech on Azerbaijan's green energy export policy to Europe at the panel session “Period of energy transition”. In the speech, it was emphasized that over the next 6 years, at least 70% of 7 GW of green energy capacities will be directed to export, and a new map of energy supply to Europe by various routes has been drawn up for this purpose. The information was provided on the status of implementation of projects of green energy corridors - Caspian-Black Sea-Europe, which at the initial stage will supply 4 GW of green energy to Europe, and Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe, which, in addition to exporting 1 GW of renewable energy from Nakhchivan, has prospects of electricity transmission from the Caspian Sea and Central Asia to Türkiye and Europe. Moreover, he informed about the imminent signing of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the field of development and transmission of green energy between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as discussing the possibilities of connecting the green energy corridor Caspian-Black Sea-Europe to Central Asia.
Minister Parviz Shahbazov said: "The uniqueness of these projects is that these corridors will connect regions and continents in the renewable energy system. It will fulfill its strategic mission by bringing green energy to Europe from reliable energy sources such as the Caspian and Central Asian regions via various routes. Most importantly, renewable energy in Europe can be balanced by the North Sea and the Caspian Sea. All these demonstrate our country's determination to transform into renewable energy resources and become a regional leader in the supply of green energy.”
It was also noted that green energy corridors are one of the 14 initiatives of the COP29 presidency to be held in November this year, hosted by Azerbaijan. It was noted that with the holding of the Leaders' Summit on the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor, as well as an Investment Forum for Central Asian Countries, COP29 will become a platform that attracts and contributes to global interest in our regional initiatives related to the supply of renewable energy.
Then, with the participation of the business sector and the media, a round table and discussions were held on the green energy transition and energy exports in Azerbaijan.
