With the support of the Ministry of Energy, the implementation of the Green Note Energy and Resource Efficiency Project has begun at secondary school No. 158 in Baku. The author of the idea and project manager of the Green Note initiative is Kamila Jafarli, a student of the 10th grade of the school. The project provides for the placement of collection boxes within the school, the collection of notebooks and other paper products used in the training processes in these boxes and their subsequent sending for recycling, thereby actively participating students in the process of Nature Conservation.

At the meeting organized with the school staff for this purpose, Director of the school Mehriban Alakbarova emphasized that the project will stimulate students' active participation in saving resources, reducing emissions into the atmosphere, protecting nature and spreading ecological culture in our society.

Then the author of the project Kamila Jafarli gave information about the Green Note Project and spoke about the contribution of the project to the construction of a sustainable green future. It was noted that the use of paper is an integral part of everyday educational life: “According to rough estimates, more than 10 tons of paper are used annually in one school alone. 80 percent of them, that is, 8 tons, are thrown into the garbage. This means a large green area of 136 trees. Every year, 136 trees are cut in different parts of the world due to the production of paper used in one school alone. The production of 8 tons of paper consumes 210,000 liters of water, 22,400 kilowatts of energy, and in the process of producing such paper, 8 tons of carbon dioxide poison the air. When paper waste decomposes in dumps, it releases methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. This is also harmful to all living things on our planet. If these numbers are increased to hundreds of thousands of schools on earth and the number of years of study of each student, then it seems how great the scale of environmental damage with paper used in schools alone is.”

The author of the project noted that the most effective way to solve the problem is to give new life to used papers. With the support of IDEA Public Union, a lot of paper will be re-usable by throwing it into special boxes placed at the school and periodically handing it over to special points in Baku. Thanks to this project, assistance will be provided in the protection of Natural Resources. As a result, the energy and water consumption required for the production of new papers will decrease. Harmful emissions into the atmosphere will be prevented.

Advisor to the Energy Minister Zamina Aliyeva assessed the importance of the project as part of the Green World Solidarity Year and the chairmanship of our country to COP29. He noted that the students thus created an example of achieving a clean environment.

It should be noted that within the Green Note project, 12 boxes have been placed in the school where more than 3 thousand students are studing. The annual green contributions of the school will be evaluated as a result of the periodic involvement of the collected papers in the production. The Green Note project is intended to be applied in other schools as well.
