A delegation led by the Minister of Eenergy Parviz Shahbazov visited Khudaferin and Giz Galasi hydropower junctions built on the Araz River in Jabrayil district.

The Minister got acquainted with the work done on the project of hydropower junctions and plants implemented in accordance with the Agreement on continuing the construction of and commissioning Khudaferin and Giz Galasi hydropower junctions and plants on the Araz River, cooperation in the field of heat, energy and water resources between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was informed about the dams built on Khudaferin hydropower junction with the capacity of 1,612 million cubic meters and Giz Galasi with the capacity of 56.75 cubic meters of water. It was reported that 96% of the work on both hydropower junctions had been completed. The rest of the work on the junctions was reviewed. The existing opportunities for accelerating the process were evaluated and relevant instructions were given. Issues related to the construction of hydropower plants were also touched upon.

It should be noted that as a result of the commissioning of hydropower junctions and plants of Khudaferin with an installed capacity of 100 MW and Giz Galasi with an installed capacity of 40 MW for the Azerbaijani side, annual generation of 358 million kWh electricity, improvement of irrigation on the existing 252 thousand hectares of land and irrigation of 12 thousand hectares of new arable lands will be ensured.
