Within the framework of the International Energy Charter Forum held in Albania on June 13, Deputy Minister of Energy Samir Valiyev met with Secretary General of the Secretariat Urban Rusnak. The sides exchanged views on cooperation with the International Energy Charter, as well as work done to accelerate reforms in the energy sector in our country and the projects prepared with the support of the charter. They also discussed the issues arising from the International Energy Charter Forum to be held in Baku in October and the chairmanship of International Energy Charter Conference by Azerbaijan in 2020.

It should be noted that Deputy Minister of Energy Samir Valiyev participated in the forum and made a speech on "Energy diversification, renewable energy and energy efficiency.” The Deputy Minister noted that challenges such as environmental and energy security facing energy demand in the world are currently actualizing energy diversification, renewable energy and energy efficiency. He noted the policy of Azerbaijan in all three directions. It was noted that the energy projects which were implemented on the initiative by Azerbaijan ensured the diversification of export routes of hydrocarbons and the energy security of our partners. Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum oil and gas pipelines connecting the Caspian Sea to the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea, and The Southern Gas Corridor which is about to be finished are the contributions of Azerbaijan to the energy security and energy diversification policy of the world.

Samir Valiyev also spoke about the complex measures taken on renewable energy and energy efficiency as a part of the reform process in the energy sector. Detailed information on new laws and regulations on the use of new energy sources for wind, solar and bioenergy, the increasing the volume of the renewable energy in the total energy balance, diversification of electricity generation and the attractiveness of private investment was given: “Fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency are new to us, but we have enough cooperation experience based on solid partnerships with foreign companies and international organizations. This experience will help us to achieve objectives on renewable energy and energy efficiency and in general, to implement reforms in energy sector successfully.
