Roundtable Discussion on "Cooperation between Public and Private Sector in Development of Renewable Energy Legislation"

The next roundtable discussion on "Cooperation between Public and Private Sector in Development of Renewable Energy Legislation" was held by The Ministry of Energy with the participation of representatives of “Azerenergy” OJSC, “Azerishiq” OJSC, State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources, Energy Regulatory Agency, a number of international companies and financial institutions.

The draft laws of the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on "Renewable Energy Sources in Electricity Generation", as well as of the contracts of purchase of electricity, and of the connection of renewable energy facilities to the electricity network were discussed at the event. The Head of Administration of the Ministry of Energy Zaur Mammadov spoke about the work done by the Ministry in the field of renewable energy sources. The Head of Administration noted that the relevant Presidential Decree " On the acceleration of reforms in the energy sector of the Republic of Azerbaijan" would lead to serious improvements in the renewable energy sector.

Ilka Lewington, the representative of the company of DNV GL which was involved as a consultant company in the preparation of legislative acts, spoke about the contract drafts of purchase of electricity, and of the connection of renewable energy facilities to the electricity network, and emphasized the main directions.

Then the sides exchanged views on the work done in the field of preparation for selection, prioritization and auction of areas having potential for renewable energy sources, and upcoming tasks.

The issues of interest to investors were discussed at the event, and it was noted that opinions and suggestions on the prepared projects will be taken into consideration.
