The next meeting of the Working Group on the green energy zone was held

A next meeting of the Working Group on the green energy zone, established to ensure the implementation of the measures envisaged in the Strategy for Socio-Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022–2026 and to coordinate the activities of the relevant government authorities, was held.

Deputy Energy Minister Samir Valiyev, who chaired the meeting, stated that the implementation of measures under the Green Energy Zone objective makes an important contribution not only to strengthening energy security, but also to mitigating the impacts of climate change and ensuring environmental protection. It was noted that reforms in the electricity and gas supply sectors, the modernisation and reinforcement of electricity grids, the deployment of modern equipment, and the construction of new substations and power lines are improving the quality and reliability of energy supply. Expanding the use of renewable energy sources, increasing energy efficiency and improving energy management systems contribute to strengthening energy security, diversifying energy sources, reducing energy costs and losses, and enhancing economic competitiveness.

Ramil Huseyn, Deputy Chair of the Working Group and Deputy Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication (CAERC), then presented a report on the monitoring and evaluation results for the first half of 2026 regarding the implementation of the relevant measures envisaged under Objective 5.2 – Green Energy Zone of the Strategy for Socio-Economic Development for 2022-2026. He provided information on the work carried out, the results of the monitoring and evaluation, and the implementation performance of measures against the target indicators.

During the meeting, the views and proposals of the Working Group members on the report were heard. Guidance and recommendations concerning the activities targeted for 2026 under the measures due to be completed, as well as the next steps to be taken, were reviewed. Relevant instructions were also issued to ensure the full and effective completion of these measures and the timely and comprehensive preparation of the final report in the coming period.

It should be noted that in addition to the Ministry of Energy and CAERC, the Green Energy Zone Working Group comprises representatives of the Ministries of Economy, Ecology and Natural Resources, Agriculture, Digital Development and Transport, Finance, and Emergency Situations, as well as the State Statistical Committee, State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, State Customs Committee, SOCAR, Central Bank, Azerbaijan Investment Holding, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency, and Azerenergy, Azerishig and Azeristiliktechizat OJSCs.
