Preparations for the first meeting of the Azerbaijan-Algeria Joint Commission were discussed

A meeting was held via videoconference between Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the development of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Algeria, and it was noted that the political dialogue at the level of the heads of state has created a solid foundation for expanding bilateral cooperation. Successful cooperation in the energy sector, including within the OPEC+ framework, as well as relations between SOCAR and Sonatrach, was highlighted. Referring to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in the energy sector and the activities of the established Working Group, the parties discussed expanding cooperation not only in hydrocarbons, but also in petrochemicals, electricity and renewable energy.

The meeting also reviewed preparations for holding the first meeting of the Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in Azerbaijan in the first half of 2027. The importance of expanding bilateral relations beyond the energy sector to encompass areas such as trade, agriculture, industry, pharmaceuticals and higher education was emphasised. It was also agreed that the first meeting of the Working Group on Energy would be held prior to the meeting of the Joint Commission.
