Azerbaijan-EU strategic energy partnership discussed
Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director for Energy Platform and International Relations at the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission.
The meeting highlighted Azerbaijan-EU strategic energy cooperation, focusing on energy security, gas supply, renewables, electricity interconnections and regional integration.
The discussions also covered the impact of global geopolitical developments and the situation in the Middle East on energy markets, particularly on the supply of natural gas, petroleum products, and LNG. It was noted that Azerbaijani gas continues to play a significant role within the EU’s policy of diversifying energy sources and supply routes. Emphasizing the key role of natural gas in the energy mix, the parties reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s position as a reliable energy partner.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation status of the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor project and the prospects for integration into the European electricity market. It was noted that the project is one of the strategic initiatives expected to contribute to the European Union’s energy security and the diversification of its energy sources.
The parties further exchanged views on prospects for expanding cooperation in the areas of renewable energy generation, energy storage systems, electricity grid modernization, and the integration of regional energy markets.
