Energy cooperation was discussed within D-8
A meeting was held between Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and Secretary General of D-8 Organization for the Economic Cooperation Sohail Mahmood. During the meeting, it was emphasized that Azerbaijan, as the organization’s first non-founding member state, is interested in active and practical cooperation within the D-8 framework, and that the Head of State attaches great importance to the development of relations with the organization. It was noted that our country is ready to contribute to strengthening cooperation between member states in all areas, especially in the fields of energy, trade, connections and sustainable development.
Issues related to the establishment of the D-8 Energy and Climate Center in Azerbaijan were considered. It was stated that, in accordance with the decision adopted at the 50th Meeting of the D-8 Commissioners held in Cairo, work in this direction is ongoing. Confidence was expressed that the Center will serve as an important platform for dialogue and cooperation among member states in the areas of energy transition, renewable energy and climate resilience.
In addition, the sides exchanged views on the organization of the First Meeting of Energy Ministers of D-8 Member States, planned within the Baku Energy Week. It was noted that Azerbaijan’s extensive experience in energy security and energy transition, as well as its regional energy interconnector projects, create broad cooperation opportunities among member states. Dialogues conducted within the D-8 framework on energy issues were described as important for realizing these opportunities and for strengthening cooperation in the fields of energy security, renewable energy investments, sustainable financing and the green transition.
