A memorial ceremony was held at the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the January 20 tragedy, which has an important place in the history of our people's struggle for freedom.

Deputy Minister of Energy Samir Valiyev spoke about the crimes committed by the forces of the Soviet empire against civilians who protested for the freedom and independency of Azerbaijan. He described January 20 tragedy as the culmination of the national liberation movement of our people for independence, sovereignty and liberty in the history of our national heroism. It was noted that the Bloody January events had a decisive influence on the formation of the national identity of Azerbaijan and were a turning point in the restoration of state independence.

The first official protest against this bloody act of the Soviet power in connection with January 20 tragedy was brought to the attention by great leader Heydar Aliyev and the first political and legal assessment of this tragedy was given. It was noted that on January 21, 1990, National Leader Heydar Aliyev visited the permanent representation of Azerbaijan in Moscow and accused the organizers of the bloody tragedy in front of the world community. It was also emphasized that the Azerbaijan always pays tribute to the memory of the victims of the Bloody January events and our martyrs. Successfully continuing the path of great leader Heydar Aliyev, President Ilham Aliyev pays special attention to perpetuate the memory of our martyrs, strengthen the social protection of their families.

It was noted that this terrible crime and bloodshed committed by Armenians could not break the will of our people, our people became stronger and stronger. Today we can proudly say that the blood of our martyrs will not remain unavenged. Under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Mr. Ilham Aliyev, our glorious army liberated our lands from the enemy. With this historic victory, we avenged both the martyrs of January 20 and of the Karabakh war.
