A memorial ceremony was held at the Ministry of Energy on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the January 20 tragedy. A minute of silence was observed to commemorate the heroes of our motherland, who sacrificed their lives for sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan at ceremony. 
Head of Administration Zaur Mammadov spoke about the crimes committed by the armed forces of the Soviet empire against civilians who protested for the freedom and independency of Azerbaijan 31 years ago, and appreciated January 20 tragedy as one of the heroic pages of our national history. It was noted that the it was that date when the Azerbaijani people showed to the whole world that they have heroes ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of the motherland by demonstrating the will of independence and bellicosity.
It was brought to the attention that the first political assessment of January 20 tragedy was given by national leader Heydar Aliyev. It was also mentioned that the government of Azerbaijan approached with high respect to the memory of our martyrs.  Strengthening the social security of families of martyrs and war veterans is always the center of the attention of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The memorial ceremony ended with a documentary film about January 20 tragedy.
