USA and EU discussed development of Azerbaijan's gas and green energy infrastructure projects
As part of the Baku Energy Week, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov held a number of meetings.
At the meeting with Geoffrey Pyatt, US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, the United States' continued support to Azerbaijan's energy projects was highly appreciated. The sides exchanged views on the necessary processes and additional sources of supply in the direction of expanding the Southern Gas Corridor. It was noted that natural gas is an important fuel in the energy transition and supports the development of renewable energy sources. At the same time, the measures taken to produce green energy from the Caspian Sea and export of this energy to Europe via Türkiye via the Black Sea and Nakhchivan through Georgia were mentioned. During the conversation, opportunities for the production and export of hydrogen in Azerbaijan, the results of a market study conducted with the support of the EBRD in this regard, as well as joint cooperation on reducing methane emissions were considered.
At the meeting with Cristina Lobillo, Director for Energy Policy, Strategy and Coordination at the EC, discussions were held on the development of the Southern Gas Corridor, the Caspian-European Green Energy Corridor, as well as cooperation priorities within the Energy Dialogue. The sides exchanged views on financing opportunities for energy projects, in particular, measures taken in a quadrilateral format in the direction of production and transmission of green energy. It was noted that the complete feasibility study of the project consisting of various components and the process of creating a joint venture began.
They also talked about cooperation with the European Union on energy efficiency and methane emissions.
