On the occasion of Power Engineers' Day, celebrated on October 20, the management and staff of the Ministry of Energy, Azerenergy OJSC and Azerishig OJSC visited the Alley of Honor to pay tribute to National Leader Heydar Aliyev, laying a wreath and bouquets of flowers at his grave.

They also commemorated the distinguished ophthalmologist and scientist, Academician Zarifa Aliyeva, and statesman Aziz Aliyev, laying flowers at their graves.

The commemorative event continued with a visit to the Alley of Martyrs, where energy sector representatives paid tribute to the memory of the heroic sons and daughters of Azerbaijan who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty, laying bouquets of flowers at their graves.

It should be noted that a new chapter in the development of Azerbaijan's energy sector began on 20 October 1981, with the commissioning of the first power unit of the Azerbaijan Thermal Power Plant, the first major thermal power plant in the South Caucasus, at the initiative and under the direct leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. By Order of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, No. 446 dated 13 October 2004, October 20 was officially designated as Power Engineers' Day in Azerbaijan.
