The Azerbaijan-EU Clean Energy Roundtable for the business community was held in Brussels as part of the High-Level Energy Dialogue, under the leadership of Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and EU Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen.

The Roundtable presented business opportunities in Azerbaijan in areas such as renewable energy, including wind energy, electricity grid infrastructure and energy efficiency. Discussions focused on identifying practical measures to strengthen the participation of the European private sector in Azerbaijan’s clean energy sector.

It was noted that Azerbaijan’s plans to increase the share of wind and solar energy to 38.7% by 2030 are being implemented in cooperation with foreign and private companies, while new energy interconnections between Azerbaijan, the South Caucasus, Central Asia, Türkiye and Europe are opening up broad opportunities for cooperation with European companies in electricity generation and transmission. Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said that green energy corridor initiatives create opportunities to expand the partnership not only in Azerbaijan and the Caspian region, but also in Central Asia: “This is the strategic vision of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, and during the visit of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to Baku in July this year, we agreed that these projects should be developed jointly. This is because they are not only environmentally beneficial projects. They also make an important contribution to energy security and are economically viable.”

Commissioner Dan Jørgensen noted that Azerbaijan offers significant opportunities in renewable energy and the development of regional interconnections: “Azerbaijan has ambitious plans to develop regional interconnections. Europe’s electricity grid technologies, equipment and engineering expertise, together with the investment activities of European companies, can contribute to the implementation of these plans.

”During the discussions, it was noted that, following the successful completion of the feasibility study for the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe corridor project and its transition to the next stage of development, the primary focus is now on attracting potential investors and strategic partners. European companies were invited to actively participate in the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe corridor and other green energy corridors, as well as in the next phase of renewable energy development starting in 2028 and in energy efficiency projects.

The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Sources, Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency, SOCAR Green and the European Commission, as well as European industry associations and companies, including WindEurope, Siemens Energy and Vestas.
