Azerbaijani and Greek Energy Ministers met in Athens
As part of the 6th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial and Technological Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Hellenic Republic, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Greece’s Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou.
The meeting focused on the current state of and prospects for the development of the Azerbaijan-Greece energy partnership. It was emphasized that the Southern Gas Corridor forms the strategic foundation of energy cooperation between the two countries. The role of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) in delivering Azerbaijani gas to Greece and other European markets, as well as that of the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB) in diversifying supply routes and strengthening regional energy security, was highlighted. It was noted that approximately 700 million cubic metres of Azerbaijani gas were exported to Greece during the first eight months of this year.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on renewable energy, electricity interconnections and the green energy transition. Information was provided on Azerbaijan’s significant wind energy potential in the Caspian Sea, ongoing solar and wind energy projects, as well as initiatives aimed at exporting green energy to Europe. Opportunities for further expanding energy cooperation were also explored.
