Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan signed Roadmap for 2026-2028 on Expanding Energy Cooperation

A meeting was held between Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and a delegation led by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy Sherzod Khodjaev.

During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the dynamic development of strategic partnership and allied relations under the leadership of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. It was emphasised that the Azerbaijani President’s state visit to Uzbekistan in August this year gave new impetus to relations between the two countries, including energy cooperation. The important role of joint energy projects and mutual investments in achieving the goals set by the Heads of State was highlighted.

The current status of cooperation in the oil and gas and electricity sectors, renewable energy, energy efficiency and regulation, mutual investments, as well as other areas, was discussed. The strategic importance of the Central Asia-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor project was highlighted. It was noted that the energy interconnections being developed by Azerbaijan via the Black Sea and towards Türkiye for the green electricity transmission to Europe will contribute to the formation of a broader green energy route extending from Central Asia to Europe.

During the meeting, the Roadmap for 2026-2028 on Expanding Cooperation in the Energy Sector between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan was signed. The document identifies the implementation of the Central Asia-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor project, cooperation on geological exploration and production in the oil and gas sector, the supply of oil and petroleum products, the development of joint projects in the refining sector, and the expansion of SOCAR’s activities in Uzbekistan as key areas of cooperation. The Roadmap also covers strengthening the exchange of experience and knowledge in the fields of energy efficiency and heat energy.
