Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, met with Dahir Shire Mohamed, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Somalia.

During the meeting, the parties recalled the recent visit of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Azerbaijan, emphasizing the role of the documents signed during the visit in establishing fruitful collaborative ties between the two countries and promoting the development of bilateral relations in many areas. The sides emphasized the significance of signing the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Federal Republic of Somalia on cooperation in the field of green energy.

Minister Parviz Shahbazov provided insights into Azerbaijan's projects in oil and gas and renewable energy sectors, especially its experience in transporting energy resources to global markets through diversified routes, as well as reforms in the energy sector. Noting that the visit would provide impetus to developing bilateral relations in the energy sector, the Azerbaijani Minister expressed his confidence that fruitful cooperation would be established in the future based on the rich experience and potential of the two countries.

Dahir Shire Mohamed, Minister of Somalia highly appreciated the leadership of his country in the energy sector of Azerbaijan and said that our visits to Azerbaijan are of historical importance for our country, because we are here for development. We are opening a new door for the two brotherly countries.

During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on the education of students from Somalia in universities specializing in oil in Azerbaijan.

Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Oil and Gas Sector between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources of the Federal Republic of Somalia was signed. The memorandum envisages the exchange of experience, participation in relevant events to be held in both countries, as well as holding joint seminars and forums aimed at developing collaboration in the oil and gas sectors.
