Azerbaijan presents Road Map on Energy Efficiency
At the event organized jointly with the International Energy Agency (IEA) within COP29, a presentation of the Road Map on Energy Efficiency Policy in Azerbaijan took place.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov said that Azerbaijan supports international efforts to combat climate change, undertakes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and serious steps are being taken to accelerate the transition to a green economy, increase the share of renewable energy sources and ensure energy efficiency. It was noted that energy efficiency is one of the main components of the country's energy transition policy and strategic documents, and a legal and regulatory framework has been developed in this direction.
According to the Road Map developed within the EU4Energy program and reflecting the current situation with the energy efficiency policy in the country in general, there is an energy efficiency potential of up to 50% in apartment buildings in Azerbaijan. As a result of realizing this potential, up to 4.2 billion cubic meters of gas can be saved annually, up to 10 million tons of carbon emissions can be reduced and 125 thousand new jobs can be created.
The event continued with panel discussions on topics such as future priorities for energy efficiency, challenges and solutions forthcoming, and the study of international experience.
