Within Technical assistance and knowledge exchange for advancing floating solar panel technology implemented by the Ministry of Energy and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the opening ceremony of a solar power installation with a total capacity of 100 kW was held on Lake Boyukshor.

Javid Abdullayev, Director of Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency subordinate to the Ministry of Energy, spoke about the contributions of our country to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and fight against climate change. Attention was drawn to the mega projects implemented in accordance with the state policy of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, which prioritizes the development of the use of renewable energy. It was noted that with the commissioning of the Garadagh solar power plant, more than 8-fold increase in solar energy production was recorded in six months of the current year. About the first solar power installation commissioned on the water basin: "The project, which is installed 95 kilowatts on water and 5 kilowatts on land, is projected to generate more than 160,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The project serves as a call for attracting private investment, and discussions on its expansion have already begun,” was noted.

Then, Ms. Candice McDeigan Azerbaijan Resident Mission at Asian Development Bank (ADB) said: "ADB provides technical support for the development of solar energy use on water in Azerbaijan within the regional project. The significance of launching this innovative plant ahead of the COP29 event is great. Though the pilot project has been implemented on a small scale, it will become another alternative energy source in Azerbaijan. The installation of FPV on these water bodies optimizes the use of water and solar resources, diversifies the energy mix, enhances energy security and avoids emissions".

It should be noted that within the project, it is also planned to organize training in the field of operation and maintenance of the station.
