Energy Ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran held a meeting in Tehran
Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, who is on a visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian.
Actual issues of cooperation between the two countries in the field of electric power engineering were discussed at the meetings held in a limited and broad format. The Ministers exchanged views on the implementation status of the project for the construction of Khudaferin and Giz-Galasi hydro junctions and hydro power plants on the Araz River, as well as the processes carried out within the Joint Technical Commission and Working Group. Satisfaction was expressed that the works on the hydro-junctions are at the stage of completion, it was noted that the opening ceremony of the Khudaferin and Giz-Galasi hydro-junctions will be held soon. The importance of accelerating issues related to the construction of power plants was also emphasized, and it was agreed to speed up the process. Issues related to the use of water resources, as well as joint measures with the Iranian side to restore, protect and maintain the historical Khudaferin bridges were discussed.
At the meeting, measures to speed up the construction of the 36 MW Ordubad HPP on the Araz River, as well as the current status of cooperation on the coordination of the power grids of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia were reviewed. It was decided to hold a trilateral meeting in a short time. During the conversation, the sides also discussed the expansion of cooperation on the electricity exchange and transit. It was agreed to strengthen mutual efforts to develop priority projects on the cooperation agenda.
