Baku to host 6th meeting of Azerbaijan-UK Intergovernmental Commission
A videoconference was held with the participation of co-chairs of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and Parliamentary under British Secretary of State, Minister for Exports in the Department for Business and Trade Malcolm Offord.
The activities of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, including the next meeting scheduled to be held in Baku in December 2023, and issues related to bilateral energy cooperation were discussed at the meeting. It was stated that the 6th session of the Intergovernmental Commission will contribute to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation. The importance of soon finalizing the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement project between the two countries was also underlined at the meeting.
The sides also exchanged views on Azerbaijan's policy on the development of renewable energy and energy transition. The role of natural gas in supporting the energy transition was emphasized and it was noted that our country focuses on the development of both the natural gas sector and renewable energy. It was noted that the currently implemented green energy projects will ensure a significant increase in the share of renewable energy in electricity generation capacity by 2030. It was also mentioned about the cooperation with bp, the main partner of Azerbaijan in oil and gas projects, on the Shafag solar power plant project in the liberated territories and it was noted that this project will play an important role in decarbonization of the Sangachal Terminal.
The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
