For 19 years, Azerbaijani power engineers have been celebrating 20 October as their professional holiday. This remarkable day is based on the beginning of the new stage in the development of Azerbaijani energy with the commissioning of the first power unit of the Azerbaijan TPP, the first major thermal power plant in the South Caucasus by the initiative and under the leadership of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev in 1981. By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, No. 446 dated 13 October 2004, that date was established in our country as the Power Engineers` Day.
