For the first time in the world, offshore oil production was carried out in 1803 by Haji Gasimbey Mansurbayov from Baku. The first offshore oil was extracted from two wells located 18 and 30 meters from the coast in Bibiheybat Bay. However, the first deep sea mining existed for a very short time, and in 1825, as a result of a strong storm in the Caspian Sea, the wells were destroyed. The world's first drilling of an oil well, to a depth of 21 metres, took place in Bibiheybat in 1846 and the drilling gave a positive result.
