Global Wind Day

15 June is Global Wind Day It was founded today with the aim of emphasizing the importance of wind energy as an environmentally friendly energy source, promoting the expansion of its use and raising awareness in this area.

According to the Irena`s Renewable Capacity Statistics 2024, in 2023 the installed capacity in this source in the world increased by 116 GW or 13 percent to 1017 GW. This is 26% of the total renewable energy installed capacity. China (442 GW), USA (148 GW), Germany (69 GW), India (45 GW), Spain (31 GW) are in the top five in terms of wind power installed capacity. The investment capacity of this type of green energy in our country is 67 MW.

On 4 June of the current year, with the participation of the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the foundation of the Absheron-Garadagh Wind Power Plant with a capacity of 240 MW to be built by Masdar was laid in our country.   

The 240 MW Khizi-Absheron Wind Power Plant, which will be built in Azerbaijan by ACWA Power of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is expected to be commissioned in 2025.
