Global Wind Day
Global Wind Day is a worldwide event that occurs annually on 15 June and is organized by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (KWEC) on a global scale. Wind Day is a day held to inform people about the power of wind energy. National wind energy associations and companies involved in wind energy production together with EWEA and KWEC organize events related to Global Wind Day in many countries of the world. In 2019, 60 MW of wind power was put into use in the world. The installed capacity on wind energy was 623 MW by the end of 2019, which is 24.6% of the installed capacity on renewable energy sources. Wind was the second largest renewable energy source (after hydropower) for power generation Wind energy`s share of electricity generation is about 8%. According to the report "Future of Wind" published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), wind power could rise ten-fold reaching over 6,000 GW, including 5,000 GW on land and 1,000 GW offshore by 2050.
There are five wind power plants in Azerbaijan with a total capacity of 66 MW. "Yeni Yashma" WPP with a capacity of 50 MW is the largest wind power plant in the Caucasus. The volume of electricity generated at the wind power plants amounted to 105.4 million kWh in 2019. In January-May of current year, 45.1 million kWh electricity was generated in wind power plants. According to the implementation agreement signed between the Ministry of Energy and Saudi Arabian “ACWA Power” company, it is planned to build a new wind power farm with a capacity of 240 MW.
