May 3 is International Sun Day. Founded in 1978, Sun Day aims to promote the use of solar energy, which is considered a more environmentally friendly resource. The growing focus on the use of this energy dates back to the 1970s. Among the newly commissioned stations on renewable energy sources in the world in 2021, solar power plants ranked first with a total installed capacity of 133 GW. At present, the installed capacity of solar energy is 849.5 GW, which is 28% of the total green energy installed capacity in the world.

Azerbaijan is also one of the countries with high solar energy potential, the economic potential of our country is estimated at 23 GW. At present, the total capacity of solar power plants commissioned in the country is 45.9 MW. Last year, the amount of electricity generated from this source was 55.2 million kWh. At present, the construction of 230 MW Garadagh Solar Power Plant is underway.
