The Electric Power Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)
Cooperation in the field of electric power in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was founded on February 14, 1992, under the agreement on coordination of interstate relations in the power industry of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The agreement was signed by the heads of governments of eleven CIS countries, including Azerbaijan. According to the agreement, the Electric Power Council was established in order to expand cooperation of CIS member states in the field of electric power and to coordinate joint activities. The charter of the organisation was approved.
The Ministry of Energy and Azerenergy OJSC represent Azerbaijan as a member of the organisation, with the membership fee paid by Azerenergy OJSC.
On March 13-14, 2014, representatives from the Ministry of Energy attended a joint meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council Environmental Working Group on ‘Energy Efficiency and the Renewable Energy Sector’ in Moscow.
The CIS Electric Power Council has held 55 meetings so far.
On April 25, 2014, the 45th meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council was held in Baku.
On October 24, 2014, Minister of Energy, Natig Aliyev, attended the 46th meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council in Sochi, Russia.
The 49th meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on June 9-12, 2016, and was attended by a representative from the Ministry of Energy.
On October 20-23, 2016, a representative from the Ministry of Energy attended the 50th anniversary meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council, held within the Russian Energy Forum in Ufa, Russia.
The Ministry of Energy was represented at the 51st meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on November 4, 2017.
At the 55th meeting, held in Moscow on October 25, 2019, Azerbaijan was represented by a delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Energy, Elnur Soltanov.
