· The European Investment Bank is an investment bank owned by 27 member states of the European Union (EU).

· It was founded in 1958.

· The bank is headquartered in Luxembourg.

· The bank's activities focus on the above priority areas: Climate and environmental sustainability, development finance, innovation, digital and human capital, small and medium-sized businesses, sustainable cities and regions, sustainable energy and natural resources, and social sustainability.

· The Bank works closely with other EU institutions to promote European integration and EU development, as well as to support EU policies in more than 160 countries around the world.

· Nadia Calvino (Spain) is the President of the European Investment Bank from 01.01.2024.

Cooperation with Azerbaijan

· The European Investment Bank has been cooperating with Azerbaijan since 2014.

· The Bank operates on the basis of European Neighbourhood Policy, Eastern Partnership and other EU bilateral agreements.

· The bank's priorities in Azerbaijan include promoting balanced and sustainable economic development (especially for rural areas), reducing inequality and diversifying national energy sources.

· The Bank has allocated large-scale loans for the construction of the Trans Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

Contacts with the Bank

· On 18.02.2023, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with former President of the Bank Werner Hoyer in Munich.

· The Bank is regularly represented at Ministerial Meetings of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the Green Energy Advisory Council.

· On 11.11.2024, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov met with Teresa Czerwinska, Vice President of the Bank within COP29.

· On 18.11.2025, Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov met in Baku with Stella Renita, EIB Regional Representation for the South Caucasus.

Cooperation on establishment of Hydrogen Fund for Azerbaijan

· On 15.11.2024, representatives of EIB and EBRD made presentations at the panel on Hydrogen Fund at the Ministerial Meeting on COP29 Energy Initiatives and talked about the possibility of creating a Hydrogen Fund for Azerbaijan.
