Workshop on "Promotion of Natural Gas Demand 2020" was held with the participation of Secretary General of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Yury Sentyurin.    Employees of the Ministry of Energy Otel Huseynov, Parvin Bayramova and Logman Demirli represented Azerbaijan at the event.
The trends observed in the global gas sector, the growing role of liquefied natural gas (LNG), the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on gas demand and prospects were discussed at the workshop. It was noted that natural gas is perceived on a global scale as a clean, affordable and reliable type of energy. At present, the negative impact of the pandemic on the world economy has resulted in a decline in gas demand and an abundance of offers. However, it was noted that the demand for gas will be restored in the post-pandemic and it will have an important position in the world energy balance in 2050.
Sides exchanged views on improving the competitiveness of natural gas through cost optimisation and digitalisation, adapting to new gas market realities in a post pandemic situation, as well as issues related to the Forum at the workshop. The event was also attended by organizations such as the International Gas Union, the African Energy Chamber and global oil and gas companies.
